Enter Emer Dineen from stage left. Emer originally wrote this vocal on the backing track for Possible Worlds, but it didn’t work. I knew it was a great song however, so I put it in Cubase as an acapella and wrote the music on my Wurlitzer, overdubbing as I went. It took me about 30 minutes to come up with the chords and the bass and then add a very simple drum track.
I could hear that a Vibraphone would sit better holding the main chords down, so I used my favourite tuned percussion emulator, Pianoteq, and we were pretty much there.
Emer is one of the fastest singers in the studio I’ve ever worked with, and also the funniest in many, many ways. The beauty of this song lies in its simplicity, but also its duality. I’ll leave you to work out what the lyrics are really about... They are some of the darkest lyrics I’ve come across in years.
