If you’re looking for the most Hippy Shit, look no further. This is the first tune I wrote and finished for the album: January 2018, to be precise. It’s also the simplest track on the album. I wanted a wall of harmony that moved and immersed you, in a warm bath somewhere in Thailand or Okinawa. The drums are pretty gentle - I tried about ten more different drum approaches and none of them worked. I ended back at sketch one’s drums, as it had all the vibe (man), and I made it sound as good as I could.
My real influences on this track are the producers Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margoulef, who were responsible for the incredible production on Stevie Wonder’s ‘Innervisions’ and ‘Talking Book’, as well as albums by Weather Report, Quincy Jones and many others. Through their production, they built better worlds, and they made my world a far, far better place.
The title of this tune, of course, has almost nothing whatsoever to do with Building Better Worlds, apart from one thing: If a hippy ever tries to sell you a better world and you fall for it, he (or she) will take you for everything you have, and more. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
